Tinubu, Mbasogo Sign Agreement on Gulf of Guinea Gas Pipeline

In a landmark move, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and President Teodoro Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea have inked a historic agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project, solidifying their commitment to mutual development and cooperation. The pact, signed on Wednesday evening in Malabo, outlines key terms for the gas pipeline’s legislative and regulatory framework, establishment, operation, and ownership.

During the signing ceremony, President Tinubu, who is on a three-day official visit to Equatorial Guinea, highlighted the agreement’s potential to unlock new opportunities for gas exploration and job creation. He also emphasized the importance of addressing Africa’s pressing issues, including employment, food security, multilateral relations, and conflict resolution mechanisms.

The two leaders engaged in discussions on various topics, including Africa’s development challenges, industrialization, research, and security concerns. President Tinubu stressed the need for African countries to develop solutions to their problems, rather than relying on external interventions.

President Mbasogo praised the long-standing bilateral relations between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, emphasizing the need to deepen cooperation in key areas. He also underscored the significance of Africa’s quest for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

The agreement was signed by Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Simeon Esono, Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of several high-ranking officials from both countries.
