Tinubu Swears In Kekere-Ekun As 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria

Kekere-Ekun Becomes Substantive CJN Under President Tinubu’s Administration.

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) in a historic ceremony at the Aso Rock Villa’s Council Chambers today, September 30, 2024. This milestone event follows the Senate’s confirmation of her nomination last week.

Justice Kekere-Ekun now holds the esteemed position of 23rd CJN, making her the second woman to ever occupy this role in Nigeria’s history. Her journey to this point began in August when she assumed an acting capacity, succeeding Justice Olukayode Ariwoola upon his retirement.

A New Era for Nigeria’s Judiciary

As the country’s highest judicial officer, Justice Kekere-Ekun is poised to shape the nation’s legal landscape. Her experience and expertise will undoubtedly guide the judiciary in upholding justice and promoting the rule of law.

This significant appointment underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to gender equality and inclusivity in key positions of power. Justice Kekere-Ekun’s ascension serves as an inspiration to women across Nigeria and beyond.
