West Africa Unites Against Corruption: NACIWA Calls for ECOWAS Protocol Guidelines [Photos]

Abuja, Nigeria – The Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) has issued a clarion call for comprehensive guidelines to implement the ECOWAS Protocol on fighting corruption. This follows a three-day Annual General Assembly, where member states adopted a communique urging action.

NACIWA’s call aligns with international instruments like the UN Convention Against Corruption and the African Union Convention against Corruption. The network seeks to harmonize legal frameworks, leverage technology, and strengthen regional collaboration to combat corruption.

The communique advocates for better funding, resourcing, and establishment of a Technical Commission to implement the ECOWAS Protocol. It also emphasizes the need for asset recovery guidelines, corruption risk assessment tools, and information sharing.

NACIWA commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and the Nigerian government for providing a permanent secretariat. The network appreciated ECOWAS for hosting the assembly, recognizing their commitment to regional anti-corruption efforts.

As West Africa unites against corruption, NACIWA’s call for action sets the stage for a renewed fight against graft in the region.
